What should we expect from our Captain & First Mate?

Good charter Captains understand that this is your trip! They should not spend all their time fishing and ignoring you. They should take time to explain fishing methods, bait, location of fish and different species to you. Good Captains will have a lot of patience and be willing to help and spend time with beginners as well as seasoned pros. Most of all, good professional Captains will have a great attitude toward you and your party. They should not pretend they are God and boss you around. In general, Captains want you to have a good time and catch fish. Sometimes, though, fish just will not bite no matter what is offered as bait. You have a good fishing trip when you feel comfortable and safe, enjoy the company of the Captain/First Mate, learn a new trick or two and catch a few fish. They can make or break your fishing trip. Charter Captains are great people and excellent teachers, as long as you hire the right ones.

What does the Captain suggest bringing with us on our Charter?

A camera to remember your trip. 1)Warm clothes, even when it is warm on shore, it can be very cool on the Lake. 2)Rain Gear, if the weather is threatening. 3)Beverages, sandwiches, snacks, etc. Please bring beverages in metal cans or plastic bottles, no glass please! 4)Motion sickness medication, if you feel it's needed. 5)Large cooler with ice to bring your fish home. Cooler should be left with your vehicle as we carry a very large cooler with ice on the boat to place your fish in until we get back to the dock. We do have space for small coolers (carry-on type) for your beverages and snacks.

What does the Captain Require of us during our Charter?

We want all of our customers to have a great time, but we do have a few rules to allow all onboard to have a safe and enjoyable trip! 1)Soft soled light colored shoes only. Sneakers, tennis shoes, Soft soled sandals, etc. are good types of footwear. This is for your safety as hard soled shoes can be very slippery on a wet and moving deck. Also, dark soled shoes can leave very hard to clean marks on the white non-skid surface. 2)Please drink in moderation. Excessive drunkeness will not be tolerated. 3)No illegal drugs of any type will be tolerated.

Where can we find a city map, local lodging, places to eat and things to do?

A great place to look is online at the City of Manitowoc's Website at the Internet Links button on our website. (once you get on Manitowoc's Website, click on the Tourism Button) If you require lodging, we have an arrangement with a nice hotel by the marina that will give my customers a substantial reduction from their normal rates. Please call me for details.

What time do you leave the Dock on 5, 6 and 8 hour AM or PM/Evening Charters?

On AM Charters (our most popular), we usually like to leave approximately 1/2 hour before sunrise. On PM/Evening Charters, we try to be fishing late afternoon into the evening. (The departure times on this one varies, depending on length of the trip) Keep in mind that we normally run the same amount of tackle whether we have 4 people or 6, so, more time on the water + less people = more fish caught per person (usually!) In all cases we try to be on the lake during the best fishing times. Please arrive at the boat approximately 15 minutes prior to leaving the Dock.

Are children welcome onboard?

Absolutely! We enjoy teaching/coaching them how to bring in fish and many times find we have just created a fisherman or fisherwoman for life.

What kind of fish do you catch?

Mainly we catch 5 different species of fish: Chinook (King) Salmon, Coho Salmon, Rainbow Trout, Brown Trout and Lake Trout Some days you may get all 5 species and other days 1 or 2 species, it just depends on the time of year, where we fish and the lake temperature. Almost always though, you will catch some variation of King Salmon, Coho Salmon and Rainbow Trout as these are the most heavily populated fish in our area.

How many passengers are you allowed to bring on a Charter?

We can bring up to 6 passengers (this does not include the Captain and First Mate) per U.S. Coast Guard Regulations. However, even though we can take up to 6 passengers (and do), we recommend a maximum of 4 as this gives everyone an opportunity to catch more fish.

Can I smoke onboard?

Yes you can, but only in the back of the boat. Please, no smoking in the cabin or on the flybridge.
